Our Past Ignites our Story for the Future
The Portaupique Community Hall has been a cornerstone and heart for the community for generations. Today, the Portaupique Community Centre continues to serve as an inclusive and accessible hub focused on family support, child development, social gatherings, and youth services. The Centre will expand its offerings to include a wider variety of prevention and early intervention programs tailored to the needs of seniors, families, children, and youth in our rural area. Communities are defined by shared norms, values, and identities.
The Portaupique Community Centre respects diverse cultural backgrounds and aims to provide a safe environment for all visitors. We acknowledge the need for culturally-specific services, including guidance from Indigenous communities and support for Black, LGBTQIA2S+, Francophone, and new Canadian populations. As the anchor organization in the area, the Centre will offer a physical location and coordinate services through direct programs and formal partnerships established via Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).
This collaborative approach minimizes service duplication and creates a sustainable continuum of support. The Centre focuses on providing comprehensive services that adapt to the needs of families and communities. Our mission includes enhancing parenting skills, promoting protective factors, and ensuring access to resources that foster well-being for infants, children, youth, seniors, and families.
10 Key Areas of Focus of the Portaupique Community Centre include:

1. Establishing a physical location in the community.
2. Coordinating referrals to help families, community members navigate service systems.
3. Addressing identified needs in a timely manner through direct services and partnerships.
4. Implementing a streamlined referral process for families as outlined in MOUs.
5. Delivering a full continuum of universal, targeted, and intensive services for community members utilizing Best Practices.
6.Ensure that service delivery is flexible, responsive, and tailored to the unique needs of the community and individual users.
7.Establish effective collaborations with clearly defined roles and responsibilities. 8.Monitor and report activities to the PCC Board and to the Membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
9.Ensure that standards of best practices are implemented, including specific criteria.
10.Conduct ongoing assessments, focus on quality improvement, and address barriers to support access.
